Blog Post 5 - Stage 1 - Initial Ideas Continued

Having concentrated on the techniques and how to use the program of Photoshop for the past few entries, I thought that it would be best to revisit my chosen assignment topic.

As a slight resumé since the last blog post (Blog Post 1) regarding the assignment topic, I firstly discussed the possbilities of some initial ideas. Previously I thought about using the TV series of Ashes to Ashes as a base for the assignment which combined some fantastic music hits of the 80s and also a wonderful range of 80s cars which are both of interest to me.

However, at this very early stage of the project I do think that it would be quite narrow minded to think of one idea and stick to it hence in this blog post I will explore another avenue.

Revised Initial Ideas Mind-Map
Continuing along with my preferred area of interest, classic cars, I thought about some other programs which were of a similar style to that of Ashes to Ashes and it's prequel of Life On Mars. This lead me onto remembering the series set between 1978 and 1983 called "CI5: The Professionals", and the similar offering of "The Sweeney", set between 1975 and 1978. Having thought of these, I decided to revise my first mind map which is visible here.

CI5: The Professionals (often shortened and known as just "The Professionals") was a long running and cult Britich crime action - drama with CI5 standing for Criminal Intelligence 5, similar to the real MI5. There were three main characters which stared in every episode: Cowley; Bodie; Doyle. As a brief potted history of The Professionals, CI5 was a fictional law enforcement department which was instructed by the home secretary to deal with crimes of a serious nature that go beyond that of the police, but not tasks for the military. The programmes involved a whole host of villains which included terrorists, hit-men, racist groups and also espionage suspects. George Cowley led CI5 and his best two agents were Ray Doyle and William Bodie. Doyle was an ex detective constable while Bodie being an ex-paratrooper, mercenary and SAS sergeant.
Ford Capri in "The Professionals"
Over the course of the episodes, there were numerous car chases when trying to intercept villains with a fantastic selection of cars being used from the era of the late 70s and early 80s. In particular, in the later series of the program, Bodie and Doyle both used Ford Capri 3.0S' which were the crème de la crème of cars the time, featuring the fantastic styling of the Ford Capri coupled with the new power train of the essex V6 engine. Often the Capri's were seen to be hurtling around the city streets and blatting down the back roads in order to get there "as fast as possible" which was a saying coined by Cowley at one point which Bodie seemed to like!

Being a classic car enthusiast, I must admit that the Ford Capri is conveniently of interest to me, as I personally own my own Ford Capri, a 1986 model year car. Basing my assignment on The Professionals would be of interest to me as it would be nice to possibly include my own car into the assignment in some way, be it the DVD case cover, disk artwork and/or the short video. Certainly, using my Capri would be a possible in regards to recording some original footage which would be an interesting project.

My 1986 Ford Capri
In conclusion I would say that using the TV series of The Professionals could be another good base to use for my project, in a similar way to that of the previously discussed Ashes to Ashes. Therefore the next stage will be to decide which route I will take for my assignment, and then I will be able to move on and properly start Stage One of the assignment.
